Sunday adventure club, meeting in an enormous storm gusting 35mph winds in a torrential downpour on the Oregon coast.
I had 36 hours before returning to work over the weekend, so my friend Nicole & I piled our sleeping bags, packs, snacks, and a dog into her car and drove as far as we could to get home to Portland in time.
Just shy of Mitchell, Oregon we visited the painted hills with nobody around but some cattle.
We passed hundreds of wild bison in northern BC & the Yukon, most completely blocking the road asleep in giant groups. Shawna bet they’d be the first animal we saw joining the Cassiar Highway, but I won with a guess of grizzly bear; 15 feet from the car, terrifyingly real and the most beautiful wild thing I’ve ever laid eyes on.
